Visiting and photographing abandoned sites can evoke a combination of intellectual and emotional responses, as I try to understand what occurred at these sites in the past along with feeling a connection to the people who lived, worked, worshiped and died at these sites. Emotionally, sites can cover the gamut from uplifting to downright depressing, the later resulting from degraded conditions or negative aspects of their past. However, there always seems to be a thrill in exploring these locations and capturing scenes representing the past.
