I guess I am a geek, retired after 40 or so years as an engineer specializing in communications technologies, with a passion for photography.  My photography is often less artistically driven and more focused on capturing the way places are, before they change dramatically or disappear.

I first took up photography by borrowing my son’s camera to photograph old computer documents to save them for posterity. However, I found myself driven to capturing local scenes which were likely to disappear soon, as our area of northern Virginia was undergoing rapid development. This lead naturally to photographing abandoned buildings, as that is often a structure’s final state before completely disappearing. Not many of these “disappearing sites” are on the website, both because many would be of limited interest except to people from the local area, and because a number were taken on film and have not yet been digitized. One example of a soon to be gone Herndon Virginia  “landmark” is below.  Over time more places and scenes may find their way onto the website.
